3 men pulled from water

UPDATE: 12:20 p.m.

RCMP along with a Kelowna Fire Department rescue boat were needed to remove three men from Okanagan Lake after their speed boat collided into the shoreline Wednesday night.

Police responded to the scene near Westside Road at about 10 p.m. to find a 24-foot Malibu wake-boarding vessel had collided into rocks and was sitting out of the water on a treed area.

Three males were uninjured in the water and one of them has been confirmed to be the owner of the vessel.

A 32-year-old West Kelowna resident, “displayed a gross level of intoxication,” according to Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“Due to his level of intoxication and perceived inability to care for himself, he was taken into police custody to be released when sober,” he said.

A police investigation is still underway as the cause of what led to the crash and how many people were on board the vessel is still being determined.

Police said there are unconfirmed reports that a fourth person may have been on the boat.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
