Rink lot good to go

The parking lot at the well-used Vernon Curling Rink is good to go, finishing on time and on budget after major replacement work.

The curling rink parking lot was badly deteriorated and has been under construction since mid-July.

The overall project included the replacement of the blacktop surface and substrate, the replacement of sidewalks on the north end of the Vernon Recreation Centre, replacement of the existing 1966 water main that runs through the parking lot, updating a fire hydrant, new storm and sewer lines, new catch basins and a new garbage bin enclosure.

A City of Vernon spokesperson said the parking stall layout was be realigned and re-painted to increase parking capacity and the sidewalks at the rear of the Recreation Centre were enlarged to make it easier for groups to load in and load out for events.

The parking lot reopens to traffic tomorrow, in time for the Antique & Outdoor Show being held this weekend at the Vernon Recreation Centre.
