The Penticton Vees training camp kicked off Monday morning at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The Junior A hockey team had its first group of athletes hit the ice at 9:30 a.m. proving their abilities and attempting to standout.

"Times have changed," said Penticton Vees head coach Fred Harbinson. "Back in the old days you probably came to camp and try to get in shape"

"These players work really hard and put a lot of effort in with their skating coaches, their strength coaches, throughout the summer and now it's an opportunity to for them to show up and see all the hard work and how it paid off getting ready for the regular season."

The camp runs from now until Aug. 30., with a few exhibition games open to the public, lined up during the camp. Coaches are satisfied with the talent the athletes are displaying so far.

"Our talent level, I think we're going to be a really fast team again and it's something that we have been known for over the years," Harbinson said. "We didn't score a lot last year, hopefully we'll add a little more offensive punch to our game."
