Vipers sign new winger

UPDATE: 9:12 a.m.

The Vernon Vipers have a new forward.

As the main training camp began Monday, the Snakes announced the signing of Finn Evans, 19,  from the St. Michaels Buzzers of the OJHL in exchange for future considerations.

From Toronto, the six-foot-four-inch, 190 pound winger has already secured a scholarship to Princeton University next year.

Evans was a member of Team Canada East during the World Junior A Challenge last season.

He is expected to take his place on the team either late this week or early next week, according to the Vipers' head office.

ORIGINAL STORY: 5 a.m.

It may still be summertime but it's back to work for those who want to play hockey for the Vernon Vipers.

The Snakes' main camp starts early Monday, with an 8 a.m. goalie session before defencemen and forwards take to the ice.

It’s expected the Snakes camp will be relatively small this year.

There are jobs available on the team, said head coach Mark Ferner, but he added that a number of “proven” players would be returning.

“We want competitive players, we want guys who go out and work,” Ferner said.

Exhibition games begin at the end of the week, with the Vipers hosting The Salmon Arm Silverbacks at Kal Tire Place. Regular season play for the Snakes begins Sept. 8.
