More smoke, wind coming

The Okanagan is expected to be spared much of the smoke from wildfires throughout the province for a third straight day Friday.

However, that could change by the weekend.

The Air Quality Health Index will remain low for the balance of Friday, but is expected to jump to a moderate rating of five to six for the balance of the weekend as winds begin to pick up.

Winds are forecast to reach 40 km/h, with gusts reaching 60.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement concerning both smoke and wind.

Along with windy conditions, isolated thunderstorms could develop across the Central Interior, Columbias, and Thompson/Shuswap region this afternoon and evening.

Brief showers with wind gusts up to 80 km/h are possible near thunderstorms.

No significant rain is in the forecast.

Temperatures are forecast to reach the high 20s today in the Okanagan then dip to the low to mid 20s over the weekend.
