Nearly two dozen bathtub racers will be flying past Powell Beach in Trout Creek on Saturday, all for a great cause.
The third annual Summerland event will feature amateur and expert racers in vessels from home built bathtubs to the high performance class. The fun kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with a pancake breakfast.
"It's a great spectator event," said spokesperson Jim Cavin. "They have raised, combined the race itself and the Summerland Yacht club, $60,000."
The money will go towards the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation’s campaign to provide the medical equipment for the $312 million Penticton Regional Hospital expansion.
The bathtub races will start at 11:00 a.m. and the family event featuring children’s activities, sand sculpting, music and more, will wrap up by 3:00 p.m.
The new PRH tower is set be ready for patients in early 2019.
