Penticton

No rain means dirty streets

The lack of rain this summer has caused dust and grime buildup around Penticton and for the rest of the summer, contractors will be washing it away.

The city is asking the public not to be alarmed if they see workers using blowers and pressure washers in high traffic areas around Penticton.

Cleaning and maintenance schedules for the downtown and lake shores:

  • Monday and Friday the breezeways are blown off and mopped.
  • Friday starting at 4:00 a.m. sidewalks are blown off for all of Main St. in the downtown area.
  • There are spot cleanups as requested (eg: in front of the Mule and extra cleanup of Naniamo Square.)
  • Waterfront maintenance occurs daily, seven days a week and started in late June through to Labour Day weekend. Crews start at 5:00 a.m.
  • Two staff start at 5:00 a.m., Thursday to Monday, walking along waterfront from the SS Sicamous to Marina Way beach picking up garbage, cigarette butts, blowing (after 7:00 a.m.) sand off walkways, stairs and waterparks. They also do this at Skaha & Sudbury beaches, alternating between lakes depending on workload and special events.

The work started the week of Aug. 7 and it will continue through to the end of the month.
