Thumbs up for wage hike

Castanet hit the street to hear the reaction of Kelowna residents to minimum-wage increases that are coming, and the response was overwhelmingly in favour of some sort of boost to the bottom line.

The provincial government announced Tuesday its commitment to raise the minimum wage in B.C., a pay hike that will affect about 100,000 people.

Currently, minimum wage sits at $10.85, and will be increased to $11.35 on Sept. 15. That will give B.C. the third-highest in the country, behind only Ontario and Alberta.

Premier John Horgan has promised the minimum wage will climb to $15 dollars per hour by 2021.
