A smoke-free morning

The Okanagan Valley, and much of the southern interior, woke up to clear, smoke-free skies for the most part Wednesday morning.

However, some smoke is expected to roll in later in the day.

The current Air Quality Health Index put out by Environment Canada is a two, or low, in the Central and South Okanagan and a four, or moderate, in the North Okanagan.

Some smoke is expected to return, increasing the index to a four across the valley.

Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, South Coast and Fraser Valley are expected to be mainly smoke-free.

Kamloops, which has experienced some of the worst smoke in the province, is expected to remain at a moderate health risk today.

The worst concentration of smoke is expected further north where Williams Lake, Quesnel and Prince George will all experience a high risk throughout the day.

An air quality statement issued by Environment Canada remains in effect for much of the interior.

The statement warns that smoke concentrations will vary depending on wind, temperature change and fire activity.
