Smoke here to stay?

Madison Erhardt

Okanagan residents could get another reprieve from the smoke. Maybe.

Sunday's sunny skies had many welcoming air that didn't taste like a campfire. But by Monday, the smoke was back again.

Smoke from wildfires raging in the Central Interior has lingered for weeks on end. But, according to meteorologist Allan Coldwells, a break could be on the way.

"I do think there will be a little improvement in the overnight period tonight into tomorrow morning, as the winds shift around. Any improvement is going to be short-lived, unfortunately," Coldwells said Tuesday.

"If we could get a southwest flow set up in the upper levels, like we usually do in the summertime, that would clear out the skies across the region," he added.

The good news is that on Thursday and possibly Friday, clear skies are in the forecast. But then, by Friday night and into Saturday, another front of smoke is expected to drop down into the valley.
