Fundraiser for family

The community is rallying around a North Okanagan man who nearly lost his life in a bizarre accident.

On Sunday, Cameron Brooks was electrified while trying to save his two dogs on the family property in Armstrong.

"There was a submersible pump in the creek and when the dogs jumped in they were immediately electrocuted," said Armstrong/Spallumcheen Fire Chief Ian Cummings at the time. "The man waded up to his thighs trying to rescue the dogs, but was overcome by electricity.

“He was medivaced to Kelowna General Hospital and was released later that night. He has burns to his legs. He was amazingly lucky to get out of that water alive."

A Gofundme page has been started for the family to help ease the financial strain of Cameron not being able to work.

The Brooks have two young children, Aemon, 2, and Armoury who is just shy of 6 months old.

“The family, just before this accident, lost their goat, bunnies and chickens in a bear attack. This family needs a break. With Cam recovering, he is unable to work and their family desperately needs time to heal. Money raised would go to bills and food so that financial stress doesn't have to be another burden for this family,” said a statement on the page.
