Sounding off for charity

Vernon's popular Civic Sounds concerts are back, and it's hoped the public will help out the Salvation Army food bank while enjoying the free event this Thursday.

People are encouraged to bring non-perishable food and cash donations in support of the food bank and the kids camping program. The Salvation Army will be on site to collect donations both this Thursday and at the last Civic Sounds concert on Aug. 24.

“The food bank is an extremely important community resource year-round,” says Hailey Rilkoff, DVA events co-ordinator. “We need to support our food bank during the summer months, especially with the large number of fire evacuees in the region who are using the food bank and social services.”

This week's Civic Sounds will have a sneak preview of some of the bands that will be taking part in next weekend's Okanagan Military Tattoo. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. in Civic Plaza.

At 7 p.m., The Young'uns, who headlined at Funtastic this year, will play.

Full event schedules and additional information regarding downtown events can be found on the Downtown Vernon website.
