Central Green building up

A fourth development is set to go ahead at Kelowna's Central Green site.

City council will be asked Monday to approve a development permit for a five-storey, 80-unit rental apartment on the site.

The building would be located within the interior of the former Kelowna Secondary School site, and will not front onto Richter Street or Harvey Avenue.

According to staff, the project would include 20-two bedroom units, 35-one bedroom suites, five bachelor suites and 20 micro-suites.

Each would have its own balcony to meet the private amenity space requirements.

Initially, the Central Green site was to include buildings up to 20-storeys in height. That was reduced to 12 along Harvey, allowing the developer to move some of the massing into the centre of the site with two additional five-storey rental properties.

The second, which has not yet received the go-ahead from council, would be located along Richter.

When built out, Central Green will include seven buildings of varying height. Three, which are currently under construction to the south of the one up for discussion Monday, and all for-purchase units.

The other four, including two-12-storey buildings facing Harvey, are rental apartments.

A large public park will face Rowcliffe Avenue. Construction is expected to begin in the fall, or spring of next year.
