Working overnight on fire

Crews will continue to work on the wildfire at Okanagan Centre overnight to get it closer to full containment.

The wildfire is now 75 per cent contained and is estimated at 50.3 hectares in size.

An evacuation order remains in place for Nighthawk Road, long Road and Tyndall Road south of 10810 to the end of the pavement.

About 58 properties remain on evacuation order and there are no evacuation alerts in place at this time.

Jack Seaton Park and Trail remain closed at this time.

“When it is safe to remove the evacuation order, residents will be allowed home,” said the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations.

The wildfire started around Saturday afternoon and smoke could be seen from the lake and surrounding areas.

Eight homes and one garage were destroyed in the wildfire.

Arson investigators have begun to look into the cause of the blaze and at this time the cause of the fire is just known to be human caused.

RCMP will continue to monitor road blocks in the evacuated area and are asking members of the public to stay away from evacuated areas.
