Children’s Fisheries Coming

by Contributed - Story: 20157

The Regional Board has approved a proposal for a one month trial children’s fishery in two regional parks.

The Regional District will partner with the BC Ministry of Environment and its partners (Peachland Sportsman Association, Lonely Loons Fly Fishing Club, Summerland Trout Hatchery and Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC) to establish a fishing area for children in the upper pond off Hall Road in Mission Creek Regional Park and in an area of Shannon Lake Regional Park.

The hatchery will supply sterile rainbow trout for the fishing areas that will be available for children starting May 1st, 2007 for up to one month or until the fish stock is depleted.

The program is designed to promote fishing opportunities for children age 16 and under, allowing each to catch up to two fish per day without a license.
