Woman to likely be elected

Americans and Canadians are more willing to vote for a woman for president or prime minister, according to an Angus Reid Institute poll.

Fewer than half of all Americans said they would vote for a Muslim presidential candidate, and both countries are divided on if they could cast a ballot for a candidate who covers their head for religious reasons.

The study found that younger respondents on both sides of the border are more open to voting for diverse candidates than older age groups.

“American respondents are deeply divided along political lines when it comes to these issues, while Canadians are divided along regional lines,” states the report.

Seven in ten Canadians see a gay man as likely to become Prime Minister in the next 25 years.

The majority of respondents in the study from both nations said they could vote for a national leader who is a woman, but there is significant differences between countries on atheist and LGBTQ candidates.
