Lake continues slow drop

The Okanagan is expecting hot weather through the weekend, which is good news for those on the lakeshore.

The level of Okanagan Lake continued its downward trend Friday morning, dropping four millimetres since Thursday.

The lake has stopped rising and levelled off about June 4. It has slowly been receding since.

Jody Foster, information officer with Central Okanagan Emergency Operations, says the lake level and potential for wave erosion is still weather driven, and hot temperatures should result in more evaporation from the lake.

While the lowering of the lake is good news for those affected by flooding, it still sits about 66 centimetres above its traditional summer "full pool" level.

“We are still asking activity on the lake to be low-wake or no-wake activities, just to make sure that we're not impacting where there's still flood barriers along the lakeshore,” Foster said.

Those barriers are expected to remain in place for a number of weeks.
