Will the best Elvis tribute artist please stand up?
The winners of the Fifth annual Penticton Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival were announced Sunday, June 25 th at the Trade and Convention Centre.
Taking top spot in the professional division was Dino Macris of Seattle, Washington. Second place went to Adam Leyk of Richmond, BC while third place was awarded to Randy Klein of Spokane.
In the amateur division, Port Coquitlam resident Jack Overbury won first place. Second went to Aaron Wong of Vancouver and third went to Joe Kelso of Summerland.
This year's first ever female Elvis tribute artist, Helen “Hellon Wheels” Gately, was not one of the 10 finalist chosen to perform Sunday afternoon.
Festival organizer Barry Sjolin estimates there were between 4,000 and 6,000 people in attendance at Queens Park for the competition and Sunday's gospel show.
Festival attendant Judy Milner says the distance she traveled to see the festival was worth it.
“I came all the way from Red Deer just to spend the weekend with the King. It was totally worth the cost of many tanks of gas, these guys are doing honour to his memory,” says Milner.
