Glenrosa in deep

The force of floodwater was so great in Glenrosa that it knocked a door off its hinges as it rushed into the basement of one home.

The flood started on Glenrosa Road near Gates Road and flowed down into homes and left serious damage.

A family living on Landsbury Court was notified by neighbours that their ditch started overflowing with water on Wednesday night.

“The ditch was filling up and they told us to watch it,” said the homeowner. “Within half an hour the basement started flooding.”

The couple living in the home described how the door was knocked off its hinges with the flowing water from their backyard.

“The pressure of the water pushed the door open,” she said.

Within minutes, their entire basement was submerged in over five feet of murky water. The water rose over the door knob and to the light switch.

“I’ve never seen it rise that fast, that quick and that intense that far above the culvert,” said John Stokman who also had flooding in his basement.

Crews arrived on scene to work on the flooding around 9 p.m.

“It had stopped raining around that time and the water was getting higher,” said Stokman. “By 11:30 p.m. it was up above the driveway and it just kept coming.”

Multiple residents in the surrounded area have reached out to Castanet and said their homes have also experienced water damage and flooding.

“Once they had the water diverted from up above, the water dropped within 15 minutes about 16 inches,” said Stokman.

The family is currently staying with relatives.

It is not yet clear what caused the flooding.
