Two days of hell for teen

A Surrey man is waiting to be sentenced after pleading guilty to horrific assaults on a teen girl over the span of two days.

Paul Schipfel pleaded guilty to a string of charges linked to crimes committed in November 2014 in Surrey. Schipfel's common-law wife, Grace Davies, is also accused and is being tried separately. None of the allegations against her have been proven in court.

The court heard the teenage victim was lured with the promise of a cleaning job, and taken to what was then a vacant property with a shed off Highway 10.

The Crown says the teen was tied up, gagged, threatened with death, slapped and sexually assaulted while at the property.

The court heard that she was told she was their anniversary gift to each other.

She was then taken to a residence in Surrey where the couple lived and was repeatedly hit, tortured and sexually assaulted during the two-day ordeal, the court heard.

Healthcare workers documented 56 injuries to the victim. Months later, the victim still suffers nightmares, flashbacks and severe anxiety.

Defence says Schipfel is genuinely remorseful for his actions, and seeks a sentence of 10 years. The Crown is seeking a 15-year sentence, less time served. The judge has reserved sentencing for a later date.
