OKIB heading to the polls

Members of the Okanagan Indian Band will be heading to the polls today to elect a new chief and council.

Ballots will be cast from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Head of the Lake Hall.

According to the band, as of Feb. 15 there were 33 people running for 10 councillor positions and three running for chief.

There are currently some 1,995 OKIB members.

The Okanagan Indian Band is one of the eight member Band communities of the Okanagan Nation Alliance; the other member Band communities are Lower Similkameen Indian Band, Upper Similkameen Indian Band, Osoyoos Indian Band, Upper Nicola Band, Penticton Indian Band, Westbank First Nation and the Colville Confederated Tribes.
