Six-laning through Langley

As the taps continue to pour out provincial funding announcements leading up to May's election, $113 million was pledged Tuesday for six-laning of the Trans-Canada Highway through Langley.

The money would fund Phase 2 of the highway twinning project.

It would widen a busy, eight-kilometre stretch of Highway 1 between 216th and 264th streets.

Transportation Minister Todd Stone said the project will reduce congestion on the main link between Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

The federal government and municipality are expected to contribute the remainder of the $235.5-million project cost.
