Drunk driver hits snooze

An alleged drunk driver created a commotion on Naramata Road early Saturday morning.

The Penticton RCMP responded to a report of a driver passed out behind the wheel in the middle of the road around 4 a.m.

“When the members got there the guy was passed out, but he kind of woke up enough to know the members were there, pulled the blanket over his face and locked the doors,” Cpl. Ted Manchulenko said.

Police had to remove the man from the car by breaking a window because he had the keys in the car with him, and officers feared he would wake up and drive away.

The man was arrested and taken to the RCMP detachment for an impaired investigation, which he refused. The Naramata area man has been charged with impaired driving and refusal.

“It was a lengthy thing.… This guy just would not co-operate at all,” Manchulenko added.
