Taking out the trash

Community clean-up month in Kelowna is about to kick off.

A group of enthusiastic volunteers will head to the recreation corridor to clean up the garbage left behind by people.

The volunteers are asking Kelowna residents to join in and do the same.

“Take even a small portion of your day to do a clean-up in your own neighborhood,” said the release.

Bags and gloves will be offered by the Regional District Waste Reduction office.

“The clean-up planned for this weekend will tackle a lot of debris that should not be there in the first place, even a few burned out camper trailers,” said Rae Stewart, waste reduction facilitator.

“We’ll be putting out a lot of elbow grease to leave the great outdoors the way it should be, pristine. And sending a message to those who dump and litter, that it’s not OK.”

Saturday morning clean-ups will target Bartley Road in West Kelowna, near the trail head to the McDougall Rim Forestry Trails.

So far, more than 50 volunteers from Shaw and a handful of residents from the area and members of Okanagan Foresty Task Force will be taking part.

Other groups signed up for the clean-up include Inter Mountain Enterprises, Uptown Rutland Assocation, Northwestside Road Community Association, District of Lake Country and City of West Kelowna, and the Oyama Community Club.
