Teen charged after joyride

Three teenagers spent a night behind bars in Penticton on Monday night after taking a joyride around the city.

Cpl. Ted Manchulenko said two 17-year-olds and a 13-year-old were driving around the city at high speed around 1 a.m., refusing to stop for police on at least three separate occasions.

“We were not going to initiate a chase with this vehicle, but subsequently the 17-year-old was unable to control his vehicle, rolled up on a sidewalk on Carmi Avenue,” Manchulenko said.

The 17-year-old driver was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and multiple counts of flight from police.

Manchulenko said the teens had “an introduction to cell life,” before being picked up by their unhappy parents.
