W Kel senior killed in crash

An 85-year-old West Kelowna woman was killed in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon, on Highway 97 near Monte Lake, police confirm.

Initial scene examination found the collision occurred on a curve when the elderly woman's Buick Century encroached onto the opposite lane and crashed into a GMC pickup heading southbound on the highway, according to the RCMP.

Weather and road conditions were not considered a factor.

The unnamed woman was declared dead at the scene.

Police said neither the 27-year-old male driver or 23-year-old female passenger in the pickup, both from Kamloops, suffered any physical injuries.

The crash closed the highway in both directions for some time while investigators looked at the scene.

The North Okanagan RCMP traffic division and the BC Coroner's service continue to investigate the crash.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision and has not spoken to investigators is asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171.
