No one home in house fire

Heavy smoke and flames poured from a home on Sutherland Avenue overnight.

Kelowna firefighters responded to a 911 call and found fire coming from the rear of the single-family home.

In a press release issued just before 1:30 a.m., Platoon Capt. Kelly Stephens said fire was quickly extinguished, but not before causing considerable damage to the residence.

No occupants were home at the time.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and police and fire investigators are expected to return to the scene this morning.

The fire department responded with three engines, rescue vehicle, safety officer and command unit, along with 16 fire personnel. RCMP, paramedics and Fortis utility crews were also on scene.
