Is high school course sexist?

Alberta's education minister wants a central school division to immediately re-evaluate a course entitled "Women Studies."

The course — offered to girls in Grades 6 to 9 — focuses on hairstyling, recipes and interior decor.

Minister David Eggen says the government understands why concerns are being raised about the content of the course.

In an emailed statement, he says education officials are in touch with the Pembina Hills School Division and are seeking changes to this course immediately.

An official with the division is expected to respond later today.

The division is responsible for about 3,800 students in 15 community schools.
