A group is looking to curb pollution in Osoyoos Lake with an awareness campaign set to take off next month.
Stickers and banners will be popping up around Osoyoos, encouraging residents and visitors to help protect Osoyoos Lake. Volunteers with the Osoyoos Lake Water Quality Society will be putting the stickers on garbage cans around town on Apr. 1.
"We are committed to protecting and preserving Osoyoos Lake through public education and monitoring the lake’s waters in five regions through the summer months,” said OLWQS past president Birgit Arnstein. “We anticipate that placing the decals on highly visible trash containers in central Osoyoos will help promote awareness about keeping our lake as pristine as possible.”
Along with the stickers, "Protect Our Lake" banners will be going up on streetlight poles, with a large banner set to be hung up across Main Street.
The group will also be handing out cards with similar messaging to travel and tourism spots in the South Okanagan.
