Stop car to put out fire

Dustin Godfrey

Drivers of a vehicle on Highway 97 reportedly experienced issues with the tachometer and other instruments before being told by another motorist their vehicle was on fire.

When he was coming up to Highway 33 along Highway 97, Brady, who asked not to give his surname, came upon the vehicle with a small fire.

The car was stopped in the middle lane, with a small fire in the rear bumper area, so Brady, who was driving in the left lane, stopped his car and grabbed his water bottle.

He said he doused the small blaze on the car, while the occupants stood off the road on the right side, and believed he had extinguished the fire, but had to leave because his truck was blocking traffic.

The Kelowna Fire Department confirmed that at about 6 p.m. Sunday it responded to the fire, which is believed to have been electrical in nature.

The drivers of the vehicle told firefighters it took another motorist telling them to realize there was a fire.
