Wine: Private Reserve Dry Riesling, 2015

Winery: Gehringer Brothers, Oliver

Why drink it? Riesling is generally an “easy drinking” white wine, as tasting room staff might say, and an good intro to German-style wines. It’s a good grape for the Okanagan, and this Riesling is a zippy nod to the more austere, less sweet/fruity versions. But it does have a peach and lime essence on the nose, though a dry, lime, kiwi, honey fullness on the tongue. A good palate cleanser between courses, it’s also a good choice on a hot day, and the price point means you can buy a case or two as you prepare for the upcoming spring and summer season. Gehringer is a winery that has been around for decades, and if it’s fallen off your radar, it’s time to go back for a visit.

Price: $14

Pair with: Just about any kind if salad; try spinach with strawberries, feta, lime zest and a lemon/lime vinaigrette. Eating something with heat, like a curry? This will calm down the spices. Also pairs well with Cajun chicken or turkey.

Classic cancon music pairing: Life is a Highway, Tom Cochrane
