Enough of winter already

Could it be true? Could normally balmy Vancouver out-winter frigid Edmonton?

The Lower Mainland was hit with another blast of snow, Monday.

Just when Fraser Valley residents thought it was safe to put away their shovels, yet another snowfall warning was issued for the region.

Vancouver Airport has recorded 63 centimetres of snow since the beginning of December, rivalling Edmonton's 68 cm since snow first fell there in October. Abbotsford Airport has received a whopping 123 cm.

Environment Canada meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau says: "It's been a much snowier than normal winter," in the Lower Mainland.

But there is relief on the horizon.

"We're getting toward the end of our snow climate," she told CTV. "Moving into March, it really drops off, whereas in Edmonton you can see plenty more snow through the winter, even into April and May."

Vancouverites are more used to seeing cherry blossoms this time of year. But, more snow is in the forecast this weekend.

After that, a warming trend is predicted.
