Woman thrown from truck

A woman who hung out of a moving pickup was sent to hospital with serious injuries when she was thrown from the vehicle.

Police allege the Dodge Ram was being operated by an impaired driver about 11:15 p.m. Saturday when it crashed on the 10000 block of Bottom Wood Lake Road in Lake Country.

The woman apparently lifted herself so she could hang outside the truck's window. She was ripped from the vehicle after her body struck a street sign.

The driver “provided a sample of her breath roadside, which resulted in a fail,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said.

At the Kelowna RCMP detachment, the driver provided breath samples twice the legal limit, he added.

The passenger, a 22-year-old Kelowna woman, was rushed to Kelowna General Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 24-year-old Vernon woman, faces driving prohibitions and fines under the BC Motor Vehicle Act along with potential criminal charges.

Witnesses are asked to call Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.
