Change to BC licences

Obtaining a drivers licence is changing in a big way across British Columbia.

Starting on Monday, every customer who walks into one of 16 ICBC licensing branches will be asked if they want to become a registered organ donor.

“Fifty per cent of British Columbians believe they have registered a decision on organ donation but, in fact, only 20 per cent have,” said Lindsay Olsen of ICBC.

This program will be the first of its kind in Canada.

More than 15,000 customers registered as organ donors during a pilot project at four licensing locations across the province.

“We'd like to see every British Columbian register on the organ donation registry,” Ed Ferre of BC Transplant told CTV Vancouver.
