Rockets blitz Blazers

The Kelowna Rockets have had no success in Kamloops this season. They scored just four goals in four losses, including 9-2 and 6-0 drubbings.

Prior to Friday's final trip to Blazer Country, captain Rodney Southam suggested the team needed to find a way to get the first goal and play with a lead.

They were unable to do it, surrendering a goal to Garrett :Pilon just 88 seconds into the game.

But, on this night, they were able to get the second, and third, and fourth and so on.

The Rockets scored eight unanswered in an 8-2 blowout.

Eight different Rockets beat the Blazers tandem of Connor Ingram and Dylan Ferguson.

Southam, Tomas Soustal and Nick Merkley scored in the first. Lucas Johansen, Kole Lind and Dillon Dube answered in the second, with Reid Gardiner shorthanded and Carsen Twarynski lighting the red light in the third.

Lind added three assists while Twarynski and Calvin Thurkauf added a pair of helpers.

Ingram, who has stoned the Rockets much of the season, was pulled after allowing six goals on 26 shots before the midway point of the second. Ferguson went the rest of the way.

The Rockets outshot Kamloops 41-25 on the night.

The win moves the Rockets to within three of second place Kamloops with two games in hand. They're only six behind BC Division leading Prince George, also with two games in hand.

Kelowna's road trip continues Saturday in Seattle and Sunday in Spokane.

They return home to host the Cougars Wednesday.
