With the Oscars tonight, a new poll finds Canadians are split over political statements during celebrity acceptance speeches.
The Angus Reid poll found 61 per cent of respondents think it's OK for celebrities to publicly express their political views, while 57 per cent feel it's OK from athletes.
Slightly less, at 45 per cent, think award show political statements are a positive thing, while 55 per cent called the practice “inappropriate and annoying.”
Additionally, 22 per cent of people said that if they disagree with a celebrities stance on an issue, it makes them less likely to support their work, while 40 per cent said it depends on the issue.
The poll surveyed 1,508 Canadians from Feb. 6 to 9.
