Taps open on water report

Kelowna could be closer to having a single water provider – depending on the findings of a report to be revealed Monday.

After more than a year of debate and infighting, Kelowna's much anticipated Water Value Planning Study is complete.

The report will be presented to city council Monday.

However, unlike most agenda items, this one is apparently still being prepared and won't be available until then.

After months of negotiation, the city's water providers agreed on a statement of principles and terms of reference for a value planning process in November.

Strategic Value Solutions conducted the study, which outlines recommendations for the best, lowest-cost city-wide solution for delivering both domestic and agricultural water in Kelowna.

Mayor Colin Basran has repeatedly stated a single, integrated water system is long overdue.

He said Kelowna is the only mid-sized city he knows of in the province served by five major water providers.
