Plenty of people wore pink Wednesday for the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Pink Shirt Day breakfast at the Laurel Packinghouse to show their support against bullying.

"Pink Shirt Day is a way to stand up for others in the ways that we are treating other people," said Diane Entwistle, CEO of the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs. "We are really excited to have such a big crowd here today to help us to celebrate standing up and being kind to others."

Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran was decked out in pink to officially declare Feb. 22 as Pink Shirt Day and Kindness Day in the City of Kelowna.

"I truly believe that Kelowna and the Okanagan can be a place of acceptance, diversity and inclusiveness that sends a message and a shinning light out to the world," said Basran.

John-Tyler Binfest, an assistant professor at UBCO, said he expects Pink Shirt Day to be a continuing event for many years to come.

"We are in year three right now, so I'm hoping that this is the beginning of a long relationship with continued success," he said.
