Fatal snorkelling accident

A Penticton woman was killed in a snorkelling accident last week in Thailand.

Shelly Bot, 50, was on vacation on the island of Koh Tao with her partner when she was struck by a boat while snorkeling on Feb. 16.

According to the Samui Times, none of the eight people on the boat saw Bot in the choppy waters. After the impact the driver and passengers brought her on board and tried to help her, but she passed away in hospital that night.

Bot leaves behind three children; 20, 19 and 15. A GoFundMe page has been launched to help fund her children’s education.

“Shelly was a joy to everybody who knew her. She was a mother, a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a partner and most of all a friend,” GoFundMe organizer, Renda Currie wrote on the page.

“Her beautiful and loving spirit and her infectious laugh will remain with all of us.”
