The A.B. Project

Internationally recognized dramatist David Glass will co-host a free theatre workshop with Revelstoke's Flying Arrow Productions that will give youth participants a chance to advance to an international theatre production.

The A.B. Project will provide an exceptional opportunity to youth dramatists. It will invite a collaborative youth theatre response to the 2011 attack in Norway by far-right terrorist Anders Breivik.

Revelstoke is a Columbia mountain town known for massive timber, big powder days and adventure in nearby alpine parks. In recent years, it has also been building its reputation as an up-and-coming regional theatre hub. That burgeoning reputation received a huge boost when theatre star David Glass announced he is bringing his new ensemble theatre project to the recently completed Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre.

David, who is brother to iconic composer Phillip Glass, is touring a workshop for The A.B. Project, an experimental youth participation theatre production that is based around youth responses to the 2011 attack in Norway by far-right terrorist Anders Breivik.

"The young will take back what was taken from them: the future," is the theme of this 'devising' workshop, a form of collaborative theatre that empowers youth to create a dramatic work. Their completed project will tell the victims' stories through drama, dance, music, design and media.

During the workshop, the young performers will be working toward an opportunity to be part of a new ensemble led by David Glass, and a chance to work on the final devised production, which will launch at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in the UK.

Anita Hallewas is the Founding Artistic and Executive Director of Flying Arrow Productions, the Revelstoke-based theatre and dance company that is hosting the David Glass Ensemble. She is thrilled to attract this internationally recognized company to Revelstoke, and to offer this free opportunity for youth. For an example of the calibre of the individuals involved, the Norwegian production has even attracted the collaboration of acclaimed recording artist Bjork.

The workshop will empower youth to create their own interpretations, and will provide them with a powerful collaborative, interactive experience, Hallewas said.

Flying Arrow hopes to attract top regional talent from the Southern Interior to this workshop, and encourages diversity and First Nations participation.

The A.B. Project workshop takes place April 8–9 at the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre in Revelstoke.
