UPDATE: 2:15 p.m.
The mother of a teenage boy who was one of two hit by a car in Armstrong last week is questioning why the incident happened and says her son is suffering from his injuries.
Two 15-year-old males were hit while crossing at an intersection at Wood Avenue and Highland Park Road around 11:30 p.m. last Thursday.
“The car had actually come to a complete stop and waited until the boys were right in front of it to go,” said Gina Galbraith. “This leads me to believe it was intentional or the driver was intoxicated.”
The RCMP are looking for the driver who they believe would have felt the impact even if the boys were not seen.
“My son was on the hood for about 12-15 feet when he rolled off and landed on his back. He is suffering a lot and hasn't returned to school today and is also missing out from hockey playoffs. It's frustrating to feel like this driver just left them there and hasn't come forward. “
Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
ORIGINAL STORY: 11:30 a.m.
Police are looking for the driver of a car who failed to stop after striking two teenagers in Armstrong last Thursday night. Neither were seriously hurt.
On Feb. 16th, at approximately 11:30 p.m., two 15-year-old boys were walking north on Wood Avenue and crossing the street at the intersection with Highland Park Road.
“A black Honda hatchback car slid to a stop at the stop sign, then made a left hand turn, striking both boys and continued to drive southbound along Wood Avenue,” said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy. “This was a low speed collision, and while both boys complained of being sore, they did not have serious injuries.”
Anyone with information regarding this collision or the vehicle, is asked to call the North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 546-3028 or Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 222-8477.
Noseworthy said the driver would have felt the collision even if he or she hadn't seen the teens beforehand but still didn't stop.
“We are required by law, all of us, to stop when there is a collision,” Noseworthy reminded drivers.
