Crews clearing rockslide

Cleanup has begun on Highway 12, between Lytton and Lillooet, after a rockslide completely covered the road.

The rockslide closed the highway in both directions early Friday, a day after a mudslide elsewhere on the road had partially closed it.

Warmer temperatures and rain have caused stability problems for slopes in the area recently, causing closures on nearby Highway 1 and Highway 8 as well.

Crews have completed a geotechnical assessment of the Highway 12 rockslide and have begun clearing the large boulders from the roadway.

No vehicles were damaged and no one was injured by the slide.

DriveBC does not have an estimated time the highway will be cleared, but will update the situation Sunday morning.
