Clarence Louie re-elected

Clarence Louie has been re-elected chief of the Osoyoos Indian Band.

He won his 12th term Thursday with 214 votes, according to the Oliver Daily News. Louie was first elected chief in 1984, and has only lost one election since, in 1989.

He was recently named a member of the Order of Canada for his innovative contributions to increasing economic opportunities for indigenous communities.

Councillors elected include Sammy Jo Louie (171 votes), Theresa Gabriel (146), Ronny McGuiness (141), Tony Baptiste (137) and Leona Baptiste (131).

Tony Baptiste previously served on council but was knocked off two years ago.

He took back his seat from incumbent Yvonne Weinert, who was defeated.
