Bend Christy's ear for $5K

If you have $5,000 sitting around and don't know what to do with it, you could have some one-on-one time with B.C. Premier Christy Clark.

Somewhere in Kelowna on Thursday, Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna, will host a pricey private fundraising dinner, The Vancouver Province reports.

The paper cites leaked emails about the event: "An outstanding dinner experience," as Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick described it.

Letnick, agriculture minister and MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country, was supposed to attend as well, but the paper reports he took some flack over being previously booked at the Pacific Agricultural Show in Abbotsford and has since backed out.

At the other end of the scale, the Greater Westside Board of Trade is also hosting a small business Q&A with Clark on Friday at the Cove Lakeside Resort in West Kelowna.

The breakfast meeting is open to the public, but tickets – a comparative bargain at $28 – must be reserved by calling 250-768-3378.

The BC NDP, meanwhile, recently took aim at big money in B.C. politics.

“A tiny number of millionaires have our premier in their pocket, and it has to end,” said Leader John Horgan.

“Millionaires gave big to Christy Clark, and she promptly turned around and gave those same millionaires a billion-dollar tax break, paid for by hiking ICBC and Hydro costs for regular British Columbians.”

Castanet has requested comment from the premier's office.
