Dog saves men from fire

A dog saved the lives of two people in an East Vancouver house fire, Sunday.

The pet woke up two men, one of whom is blind, and alerting them to the fire, which broke out about 2:30 a.m.

The Euclid Avenue home had been undergoing renovations, but it's not yet known if the work is related to the fire.

Battalion Chief Jim Booth said the men escaped without injury.

“The dog woke them up, he heard something, and thanks to the dog, they got out of the house,” Booth told CTV. “Like all good pets do, it made sure its owner got out.”

Building materials inside the garage were on fire when firefighters arrived, flames spread to the upper deck of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
