Coroner on Cawston fire

The RCMP has confirmed that the B.C. Coroner's Service is working on a fire that ripped through a building in Cawston Saturday morning.

Little information has been made available, but Castanet has received tips that there was a death in the fire.

The building was fully involved in the fire by the time the first Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department truck arrived to the scene at around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

Osoyoos sent five firefighters to Cawston to assist with the fire, with just 10 Keremeos firefighters able to respond to the call.

Fortis Gas Kelowna was called to the scene to cut off the natural gas line after a wall fell onto a part of the line.

Firefighters eventually extinguished the fire, after an 11 hour battle.
