Enderby sledders located

Vernon Search and Rescue went to the aid of two Enderby snowmobilers reported overdue Saturday evening.

RCMP called out search volunteers at 6:30 p.m. yesterday to look for a husband and wife in the Hunters Range area northeast of Enderby.

Fifteen members responded, according to Leigh Pearson, VSAR search manager.

"Both were located by search crews at approximately 9:45 p.m. and brought out to safety," said Pearson. "They had become separated and both had gotten their snowmobiles stuck."

One of them sent a message by text but shortly afterward the cell phone ran out of power.

Pearson said the two were able to walk to a chalet.

One then went out with a groomer who was working on the trails and dislodged one of their machines, he said.

The couple were located and transported down the mountain, both safe and uninjured, shortly before midnight, Pearson said.

The two had been reported missing by their worried son.

Pearson said Hunters Range is a popular snowmobiling area. He expected several hundred to be sledding in the area on Sunday.

VSAR thanked the Hunter’s Range Snowmobile Association and Rob, the groomer operator, for their assistance.
