Body found inside SUV

UPDATE: 1 p.m.

Police say it appears a murder in Richmond Tuesday night was targeted.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Vancouver resident Calvin Chi Hang ZHAO.    

Investigators have identified a suspect vehicle that was seen fleeing the scene of the shooting, and are working to confirm the make and model. The car is described as a white SUV, and anyone with information about this vehicle, or its whereabouts, is asked to contact IHIT. 

The area surrounding the scene remains closed for investigation.

"The selfish act of homicide is one that puts the public at risk, and creates an elevated level of concern for police," says Cpl. Meghan Foster of IHIT. "For this reason, we need those who have information to come forward and contact us."

Richmond RCMP are investigating the discovery of a body inside an SUV.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to the 7000 block of Ash Street after receiving reports of gunfire. 

Officers secured the area with rifles drawn as a deceased male was found inside a late-model Jeep.

Cpl. Dennis Hwang said the incident does not appear to be a random act.

Police tape cordoned off the area late into the night as the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in to conduct the investigation. 

Police are still gathering evidence and released no other information.
