Ruck, Canada golden

Kelowna-born Taylor Ruck had the swim of her life Saturday at the World Short Course Swim Championships in Windsor, ON.

Ruck, who now lives in Arizona, led Canada to a gold medal performance in the women's 4x200 metre freestyle relay.

Her 200 metre leg, a blistering 1:51.69, was the fastest of any swimmer in the competition.

“It was amazing to share this experience with this amazing relay team,” Ruck said.

The team of Ruck, Katerine Savard, Kennedy Goss and Penny Oleksiak, finished in a Canadian record time of seven minutes, 33.89 seconds.

It was more than 10 second faster than the previous record set in 2009.

The United States finished second, 4.76 seconds behind Canada. Russia was third.

Saturday's gold was the second for both Ruck and Oleksiak.

Ruck took bronze in the women's 200 metre freestyle, while Oleksiak captured bronze in the 100 metre freestyle.

“We’re trying to show people that we didn’t just go fast at the Olympics, we’re continuing to do it at the world stage,” Oleksiak said.
