Rockets get it done in OT

The Kelowna Rockets kept coming and coming, until they were finally able to find a way.

The Rockets dominated the final 25 minutes of regulation time and overtime Friday, in eking out a 3-2 overtime win over the pesky Tri-City Americans.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the third when the Rockets took over. They outshot the Ams 15-1 in the third but couldn't find a way past Tri-City goaltender Evan Sarthou.

The story was much the same in overtime, as the Rockets managed all five shots.

Persistence paid off as Kole Lind knocked home his 16th of the season 3:17 into the extra period for the 302 win.

It was the Rockets third win in a row. They have picked up at least a single point in six straight and eight of their last nine.

Nolan Foote gave the Rockets a 1-0 lead in the first. After the Americans scored back-to-back power-play goals to forge ahead by one, Calvin Thurkauf pulled the Rockets even.

It was his 13th of the year and fourth in two games.

Michael Herringer turned away 20 shots to earn the win.

The game marked the opening of the Rockets season-long seven game road trip. It was also the first game without Nick Merkley and Dillon Dube, who left Thursday for Canada's world junior selection camp.

Thurkauf and Tomas Soustal will leave for their respective selection camps over the weekend.

The Rockets road trip continues with games Saturday in Cranbrook and Sunday in Lethbridge.
